MINIART Coraceros Franceses Guerras Napoleónicas - Escala 1:16 - 16015. Durante las Guerras Revolucionarias (1792-1799) y, especialmente, durante el período napoleónico (1799-1815), Francia probablemente contó con la maquinaria bélica más eficiente del Viejo Continente, lo que casi le permitió una hegemonía duradera sobre Europa. Resulta obvio que el elemento clave de esta maquinaria era el ejército francés. La caballería desempeñó un papel fundamental en este ejército. En sus filas, como regimientos independientes, las unidades de coraceros aparecieron solo durante el período consular (1799-1804), las primeras de las cuales se formaron a partir de la llamada caballería pesada en los años 1801-1802. En 1803, el número de regimientos de coraceros se fijó en doce. Hasta 1807, el regimiento de coraceros constaba de aproximadamente 780 hombres divididos en cuatro escuadrones de dos compañías cada uno. Para 1807, el Regimiento de Coraceros contaba con 5 escuadrones y 1.040 hombres a tiempo completo. El armamento básico de los coraceros franceses era el sable AN IX (hasta 1805), posteriormente sustituido por el sable AN XI. Sus armas secundarias eran las pistolas de caballería AN IX, con un peso de 1,29 kilogramos y un calibre de 17,11 mm. Posteriormente, también se utilizaron pistolas AN XI. Llevaban cascos de hierro en la cabeza y sus cuerpos estaban protegidos por una coraza y un peto. Como curiosidad, cabe destacar que entre 1805 y 1815 se utilizaron tres tipos de armadura, cada uno ligeramente diferente del otro. Los coraceros franceses eran la caballería pesada clásica, principalmente adecuados para el campo de batalla, pero de poca importancia para reconocer o dirigir las llamadas guerras menores. Los mejores comandantes de esta formación son, por ejemplo, el General d'Hautpoul, quien se distinguió especialmente en Austerlitz (1805), y el General Espagne, quien realizó una excelente labor en la Batalla de Caldiero.
